Tennessee Criminal Records: Top 3 Websites

The TN government portal project, called TennesseeAnytime, has put up a couple of public access databases online. The project provides user-friendly search tools that can be used to conduct a Tennessee criminal records background check. A third online system, run by the federal judiciary, contains court dockets from the three TN District Courts.

Tennessee criminal records can be found at three online sites. Two sites (FOIL and METH) were developed as part of the TennesseeAnytime state government portal project. Carried out in partnership with private parties, the project was launched in 2000 in line with the TN State Government's push towards e-government, which includes greater public access to Tennessee criminal records.

Information on TN Criminal Records

1. FOIL
The Felony Offender Information Lookup is a streamlined search engine that gives you three options by which to search TN felony databases:

a. Name and Race
b. TN Offender Management Information System ID No.
c. State ID No.

These online databases contain information from the TN Correction Department and the State Parole Board.

2. METH
The Methamphetamine Offender Registry Database contains data on persons who have been convicted of meth-related violations. To start a search, you need to fill in only two fields:

a. County where offense was committed
b. Offender's last name and first name initial

METH was created under the Meth-free Tennessee Law passed in 2005. TN Law now requires that anyone convicted of a meth-related offense after 30 March 2005 must register in the county of conviction.

The county clerks of court then furnish the TN Bureau of Investigation with their respective registries.

3. ECF
The Electronic Case Files, containing cases from the Tennessee Courts, is placed online by the Federal Judiciary's Case Management System found in that court. The system yields PDF files, which require the payment of an $.08 fee per page.

ECF can give you case dockets with such information as:

a. All participants or parties named in a case
b. Nature or cause of suit
c. Chronology of events
d. Documents filed
e. Judgment or status of a case

To verify using ECF if Tennessee criminal records exist for a certain individual, you simply have to first look for the name of the person, check the nature of the case, and the ruling handed down by the court.
