In November 7, 2006, Reese
Witherspoon filed for a divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe at the Los
Angeles Superior Court. Divorce records have not been finalized though.
Today, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, while waiting for the
court and the marriage divorce records finalization are busy with their
careers as Reese is currently waiting for the release of her upcoming
movie, Penelope.
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon started out in
1991. She got her first role in the made for TV movie entitled
Wildflower. Reese, 15 at that time, also tried out for a minor role for
The Man in The Moon but got the lead role instead. This was a big break
for her as she has captured the attention of many critics.
After The Man In The Moon, Reese had been getting roles as the
supporting or lead actress. Her filmography has been building up
impressively. She got an award for the “Best Female Breakthrough
Performance” for the movie Pleasantville.
In 2001, Reese Witherspoon was given the role as “Elle
Woods” in the comedy movie Legally Blonde. Her performance in
this movie made the critics dub her as the new Meg Ryan. Because of the
movie’s success, in 2003 a sequel to movie, Legally Blonde 2, was
made. This too became a box office success.
But the movie that landed Reese Witherspoon the numerous awards is Walk
the Line. The movie was about the life of Jane Carter Cash who died in
a car crash in 2003. Some of the awards include Favorite Leading Lady
in the 32nd Annual People’s Choice Award and as Best Actress in
the Academy Award.
Ryan Phillippe on the other hand, started his acting career in One Life
to Live, an ABC daytime drama. He played the role of a gay teenager.
The very first gay teenager who grazed in a daily soap opera and this
caused some fuzz. In 1993, Ryan Phillippe moved to Hollywood and played
several minor roles in TV shows and movies.
In 1997, Phillippe was part of the cast in the movie I Know What You
Did Last Summer that also starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie
Prinze, Jr., and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The film was a hit and gave
Philippe recognition. He continued to receive different roles from
different movies. However, it was in the film “Cruel
Intentions” that he and Reese’s relationship went deeper.
Reese and Ryan first met during Reese’s 21st birthday in 1997
where they had some small conversation. A year after that, they got
engaged and got married on June 5 1999. They have 2 children Ava
Elizabeth and Deacon Reese.

November 7, 2006. According to the divorce records, reason cited was
irreconcilable differences. The divorce records also show that there
has been no prenuptial agreement leading to the 50/50 division of
earnings. It is also in the records that Reese asked for the physical
custody of their kids and with Ryan visitation rights. She also
indicated on the divorce records to give no spousal support.
