The Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey Divorce
In 1994, Neil Diamond and
Marcia Murphey divorced in Los Angeles at a settlement of $150 million.
Today, Murphy lives a very private life away from the media while
Diamond also lives quietly and does special appearance occasionally. He
reportedly is dating Rachel Farely from Queensland.
Divorce records show that Neil Leslie Diamond
is one of the most successful pop singers and songwriters to date. Over
four decades he has sold over a million copies worldwide which is a
record third overall. He is a Songwriters Hall of Famer and received
numerous awards throughout his career. Also, he is one of the few
artists who own the copyright of their recordings.
Marcia Murphey is a TV producer whom Diamond reportedly fell in love
with while he was still married to his first wife. According to divorce
records search, after divorcing Jane Posner in 1969, he suddenly
disappeared for three weeks after saying that he is just going to get
some cigarettes and returned married to Marcia Murphey.
Data about Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey from Divorce Records
In public divorce records, Marcia Murphey filed for divorce after
twenty five years due to irreconcilable differences. Diamond admits
that he lacked a lot of qualities in being a good husband and father.
Throughout his career he was constantly out of the house and never
really had time with Murphey and his children.
Diamond and Murphey argued about his work and schedule and since he was
a crooner, it was impossible for him not to get linked to other
beautiful celebrities and women at the time. The couple constantly
struggled for 25 years from the media since Diamond was very successful
and famous. In marriage divorce records, there were also good times
that they shared like working together and being close when Diamond was
diagnosed with spinal tumor. Diamond said that he has always loved his
family.
In 1994, Murphey claimed that her husband has been having extramarital
affairs and so a very controversial and public divorce broke out.
Murphey was asking for a settlement which equaled half of Diamonds
total fortune which was a mind-blowing $150. In divorce records, this
amount was the second largest in American divorce history and the
fourth in the world. The settlement fee was gladly given by Diamond
saying that Murphey was worth every penny of their two and a half
decades of marriage and for giving him wonderful children. The fortune
was very much discussed years after but the couple had been quiet ever
since.
Divorce Records Aftermath
The media did not have much word from Murphey after the
divorce and Diamond as well was settling down and shows himself to the
public eye once in a while for a few guest appearances and
recognitions. He also made a new album which purportedly is about his
marriage and separation from his wife. He was seen dating Rachel Farley
and news has it that they had secretly been wed in Aspen, Colorado.
Diamond keeps his mouth shut on the subject, though.
