Divorce Records of Juanita Vanoy & Michael Jordan

Marriage divorce records of Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy signal the end of a happy marriage. He is unarguably America's greatest basketball player. His career saw him leading his team six times to championship. He was also five-time league MVP. Aside from an illustrious and lucrative basketball career, Michael was also highly successful on the home front, until his much-publicized divorce from his wife of 17 years, Juanita Vanoy. Juanita a former model, works as a bank executive in Chicago.

A joint statement from the ex-couple said that the decision to divorce was mutual and was arrived at amicably. Their divorce records cite irreconcilable differences as the cause of the break up, and that any attempt to work things out would be impractical.

There were actually attempts at reconciliation. Juanita filed for divorce in 2002, but they were able to patch things up and got back together after that. Prior to this, Juanita was said to have threatened Michael with divorce three times.

There were several speculations as to the real cause of the split but mostly were on Juanita's insistence that Michael retire and spend more time with the family. As the country's number one basketball player for years, his career would often have him away in practice, games and other activities.

Jordan first announced his retirement in 1993, shortly after his father was murdered. But he returned to play with the Chicago Bulls, in 1995. He went into retirement for the second time in January of 1999. Yet, he went back to basketball again in 2001 when he joined the Washington Wizards. For the third time, he retired on April 16, 2003.

Another often-mentioned cause of the break-up was Michael's infidelity. He was accused by a former lover, Karla Knafel, of fathering her child. She sued him for allegedly reneging on his promise to pay her $5 M in exchange for not filing a paternity suit. But he was cleared after an Illinois judge confirmed that the basketball star did not owe the woman any money as he was not really the father of her child. Michael denied he ever fathered any child by the woman.

Divorce records show record-breaking settlement

The divorce came as no surprise as the couple have been living separately since February 2006, 10 months prior to the divorce. Mariage divorce records show that in their petition, they asked the court requirement for co-parenting sessions be waived as they feared undue media attention and interference in their children's lives.

According to divorce records search conducted, theirs is said to be the most expensive celebrity divorce ever, with Juanita walking away more than $150 M richer and getting their Highland Park property which sits on a seven and a half-acre land with a guesthouse, pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and six rooms.
