The Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley Divorce

In January 18, 1996, Lisa Marie Presley filed for a divorce from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, at the Los Angeles Supreme Court. Today, Lisa Marie Presley is busy with her albums, which have gone platinum as the year 2007 stepped in. Michael Jackson, on the other hand, is busy attending special events.

Lisa Marie Presley is the only daughter of the King of Rock N Roll, Elvis Presley. When Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla, filed for divorce against Elvis, she got custody of her but Elvis was still given every chance he could get to see her. Lisa Marie was provided with the best things a father can ever offer. When Elvis died, everything he had was passed down to Lisa Marie Presley.

Michael Jackson was one of the Jackson 5 and later became the King of Pop. A lot of controversies surrounded Jackson, including the molestation of a 13-year old boy.

Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson supposedly first met when they were still very young, when Elvis Presley brought Lisa to one of the Jackson 5’s concerts. According to Pricilla, Lisa’s mother, there was one incident when Jackson invited her for dinner and asked to bring Lisa with her; but she hesitated sensing something odd and with Lisa still 16 back then.

But, eventually, in 1994, Michael Jackson and Lisa Presley got married in a private ceremony in the Dominican Republic. However, the marriage received so much doubt, thinking that Michael Jackson was just boosting his reputation because of the bad public image he was given when a 13-year old boy filed charges against him for molestation. This was, however, Presley’s second marriage and she already had 2 sons with Danny Keough.

For the first few months, the couple tried to prove the public wrong. Lisa Marie became active in Michael Jackson’s projects like being in the music video of the song “You Are Not Alone.” They also attended shows on MTV and appeared for interviews. When asked about the controversy about their marriage Lisa would answer, “I would not marry a man who I have not fallen in love with.” And when asked whether it was a consummated marriage, she would readily reply “Yes! Yes! Yes!”

But 21 months after the marriage, January 18, 1996, Lisa Marie Presley filed a divorce at the Los Angeles due to “irreconcilable differences.”
