The Madonna and Sean Penn Divorce
In
January of 1989, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone filed for a divorce
from actor Sean Penn. The divorce records were finalized on September
14, 1989. Today, Madonna is together with British Director Guy Ritchie.
She continues to be active with her music career and as well as with
her humanitarian efforts in Africa. As for Sean Penn, he has been
politically active and is also currently busy in the movie
industry.
In
1985, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone who was then a rising star in the
music industry married actor Sean Penn. The couple got married on
August 16, 1985, which incidentally was also Madonna’s
birthday. They were married on the grounds of a house on a cliff top in
Malibu. It was supposed to be a private event and ceremony where only
family and close friends are invited. But the press, most especially
the Paparazzi, was very keen to get photos of the event that they went
as far as to use a helicopter that disrupted the wedding ceremony. To
Sean Penn’s anger, he went down to the beach and wrote in
3-meter high letters the words “FUCK OFF.” Later,
the terrible event that occurred prompted Madonna to say,
“The whole thing was a disaster.”
During their marriage, Penn and Madonna continued to pursue their
careers. While Penn was working on his movie At Close Range, Madonna
already started working on her third album entitled “True
Blue.” The couple was also able to work together in a movie
entitled Shanghai Surprise.
The marriage of Madonna and Penn was a very big controversy at that
time and photographers, Paparazzi, followed them wherever they went.
There came a point when Sean Penn would start lashing out at the
photographers and this behavior was more intense when he is with his
wife due to his protective nature for Madonna. Because of this, they
were dubbed as “The Poison Penns” by the press.
This behavior got worse when Penn started assaulting these
photographers that gave him a prison sentence in 1987.
In December 4, 1987, Madonna file for a divorce against Sean Penn for
the reason of irreconcilable differences. But Madonna withdrew it a few
weeks later, December 16, 1987. The couple then entered marriage
counseling. But on December 28, 1988, Sean Penn was filed with assault
charges by Madonna but again withdrew it. In 1989 on the month of
January though, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone again filed for a
divorce and pushed through with it. The marriage divorce records were
finalized on September 14, 1989.

the first filing of Madonna for divorce in 1987 stated the reason was
irreconcilable differences. On the divorce records for 1989, the same
reason was still stated. Also on the divorce records, they did not
