Obtaining Divorce Records Online in Nevada
You can access divorce
records online in Nevada. However, they are not available from the State Health
Department, but from the Clerk of Court in the county that had jurisdiction over
the divorce.
When requesting divorce
records, you have to provide complete data, such as complete names, dates, and
locations, as well as the type of final decree issued by the court. You also
have to inform the issuing office of your daytime contact number, including your
area code. Nevada has 17 counties. To access them visit
the Vitalrec.com website, which has links on the Nevada page for
each county. Click on the county link to look for the city where the divorce was
resolved.
Depending on the date the final
Decree of Divorce was issued, you may also be required to state the reason for
your request or your relationship to the individuals on record.
Divorce Records
Online in Nevada: Search Only
Since even less complex and
voluminous records are still not available online as digitized images, it is
unlikely that divorce records will be. However, indexes like Vitalrec.com can
help you narrow down your search to the county you need to correspond with.
However, online indices will
generally point only to the final Decree of Divorce. To look for other records,
such as the initial petition and motions that occurred before resolution, you
may have to call, correspond, or even visit the county clerk's office.
In general, divorce records
will show:
1. Names of
spouses
2. Marriage date
3. Divorce date
They may also
include the following:
4. Spouses'
dates of birth or ages
5. Where each
spouse is presently based
6. Properties
owned by either spouse
7. Names and
dates of birth of children
The reasons for divorce may
only be gleaned from the complete records filed at the county level, which
includes prayers, motions, rulings, etc.
In Nevada, divorce records
searches have turned up data for entitlement cases and business concerns that
involve a division of property. Moreover, they have proven especially useful for
children involved in a divorce, helping them establish their rights to property
left behind by a parent who passed away.
