After nine years of marriage, Quaid filed for divorce on July 12, 2000.
The following month, Ryan countersued. The two announced their break up
the year before. Their divorce records cite irreconcilable differences
as the cause of the break-up. The couple asked for joint custody for
their only child, Jack.

For her part, Ryan said in an interview with a magazine: "The reasons
we broke up have nothing to do with another person. My marriage was
broken -- nobody else broke it up. It dissolved before it became sport
for the press. I'll never talk about what went down, and neither will
Dennis."
After the break-up, Quaid dated Andie MacDowell and Playboy pinup and singer
Caprice Bourret. He later married Kimberly Buffington on Thanksgiving
Day in 2004. Meanwhile, Ryan eventually broke up with Crowe, claiming
that she was having an early midlife crisis. She was also linked with
actor Matthew Perry. She also adopted a Chinese baby girl. Her latest
film is The Land of Women.
He is now playing with his band, Dennis Quaid and the Sharks in many LA
Clubs. He has been playing the guitar since he was 12 but put it away
when he was busy with films. After his split with Ryan, he revived his
musical roots. Ryan remains single and is still busy with films.
