He was married to Barbara Harris from 1981 until the time of his death five years later. Cannon continued to appear in TV shows and films after the separation. She is now living quietly and remains single.

Grant was also rumored to be bisexual which hampered their relationship further. The court issued the settlement and grant both of them joint custody over their only daughter.
