In July 17, 2002, Angelina
Jolie filed for a divorce from husband Billybob Thornton in the Los
Angeles Superior Court. Divorce papers were finalized in May. Today,
Angelina Jolie is with actor Brad Pitt. She, while very busy with movie
projects, is also very active with humanitarian activities. Billybob
Thornton on the other hand is busy with shows and other movie projects.
Angelina Jolie is the daughter of awarded
actor John Voight and Marchelind Bertrand. She was already exposed to
movies while she was still very young. Inspired by films, she studied
at the Lee Stratesberg Theatre Institute when she was 11. By the age of
16, she took up modeling and appeared in many music videos.
Angelina Jolie also starred in the movie “Hackers” with
co-star Jonny Lee Miller, her first husband. The movie “Girl
Interrupted,” in which she played opposite Winona Ryder, gave her
her very first award as Best Supporting Actress. She continued to
pursue her acting career and landed a role in the movie “Pushing
Tin” where she met her second husband Billybob Thornton.
Billybob Thornton, a premier actor, is 20 years older than Jolie and
already had 4 failed marriages. But this did not stop the both of them
from getting married.
The couple Thornton and Jolie were very open about their sexual
activities to the public. They also had each others name tattooed on
their body. Billybob and Angelina had this ritual where they wore vials
of each other’s blood if they were not together.
When Angelina Jolie got the role of Lara Croft in “Tomb
Raider,” something changed in her. One of the locations of the
movie was in Cambodia and there she said “I discovered things
about what is happening in the world… Cambodia was really eye
opening for me.” She adopted Maddox, an 11-month old Cambodian
whom she and Billybob parented.
But there came a point in their marriage when trouble had started to
brew. They had not been seeing each other for 4 months already and had
started living apart. Jolie filed the divorce records and papers in
July 17, 2002.
