The Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields Divorce
According to public divorce records, on April 9, 1999, Andre Agassi and
Brooke Shields divorced amicably in Las Vegas, where the two shared a
home. Agassi is now with Stefi Graf, also one of the greatest female
tennis players ever. Shields, on the other hand, is now married to
television writer, Chris Henchy, with whom she has two daughters.
The Couple: Andre Agassi is definitely one of
the best tennis players the world has ever known. With 60 singles
titles to his name, he is the first male tennis player to win Grand
Slam on four different surfaces and one of only five who have won in
four grand slams. He also has an Olympic medal tucked under his belt.
His celebrated rivalry against Pete Sampras in the 90's generated so
much excitement about tennis and made it one of the best-loved sports
worldwide.
He turned pro in 1986 and quickly moved to the top of his game. He
became No. 1 in 1995. He was labelled as the Bad Boy of Tennis during
his younger years, but earned the respect of everyone when he made a
successful comeback in 1998 by jumping 122 spots to No. 6. He reached
the No. 1 rank again in 2005. The following year, he retired.
Brooke Shields became famous in her movies like Pretty Baby (where she
played a child prostitute), Blue Lagoon and Endless Love. Her
unforgettable Calvin Klein ad campaign all the more cemented her
popularity among audiences in America and the rest of the world. She
interrupted her movie career to pursue a degree in Princeton University
in the late 80's.
Divorce Records on Agassi and Shields
First introduced in 1993, Agassi and Shields got married on April 19,
1997 in a lavish California wedding. During their marriage, Shields'
career was on the upswing while Agassi's spiraled downwards. He began
losing one game after the other until he sank to his lowest rank of No.
141 in 1997.
Their marriage divorce records show that just 10 days short of their
second wedding anniversary, they got divorced on April 9, 1999.
Commenting on his failed marriage, the tennis star was quoted as
saying: “Love is not enough for a marriage to work.” Hours
after the announcement of their split, Agassi went on to play against
Germany's Hendrik Drikman in the the Hong Kong Open semi-finals and
won.
There was no reason given for the break- up, except for some
speculations that his struggles in the court have put a strain on their
relationship. During the break-up, the couple said that they still had
utmost respect for each other and that they were still the best of
friends. Divorce records search conducted online did not yield any
information as to the amount of the settlement reached.
The following year, both couple remarried. Agassi married Stefi Graf,
the only other tennis player who has won all four Grand Slams and an
Olympic Medal. The power duo has two kids.
