Finding Death Records Online In Nebraska
If you don't
have time to go to state counties to access death records, online portals may
prove to be a great help.
Although applications may be
partially processed online, particularly in helping you provide adequate
information to find a record, the Vital Records Office of the Nebraska HHS
Finance & Support Department does not as yet accept e-mail applications for
record copies.
Death records
in Nebraska can also be found online and may be accessed through
this link by providing the required information. You may download an
application for a death certificate at the website. However, you will still have to
correspond with the Department through Box 95065, Lincoln, Nebraska 68509-5065,
phone (402) 471-2871, or e-mail Vitalrecords@hhss.ne.gov.
You may also visit the Health &
Human Services System at 301 Centennial Mall South in Lincoln.
Death Records Online in
Nebraska: Restrictions & Requirements
Aside from the logistical
limits that prevents the state (as with most states) from issuing digital images
of death records online in Nebraska, the state also curbs access.
The Department will not issue
certified copies of death certificates without a valid reason, unless you are
the spouse, parent, or child of the deceased, or their legal representative.
Records cover deaths since the
latter part of 1904 to the present day. For deaths that took place before then,
get in touch with the county office. Death certificates sent by mail cost $11.00
each.
Nebraska accepts payments by
check or money order, but does not yet have the facility to accept credit cards.
Even when no results are pulled
either due to incomplete data or a request by an unqualified party, the
Department will retain a search fee, defined by law.
Therefore, make sure that you
provide the following REQUIRED information:
1. Complete name
of the decedent
2. Death
location (town, city, and county)
3. Complete date
of death
If you have the
following necessary data, provide it as well to ensure a search result:
4. Decedent's
date of birth
5. Decedent's
place of birth
6. Name of
decedent's spouse
7. Name of
decedent's father
8. Maiden name
of decedent's mother
9. Name of
funeral director
Finally, you should state
how you are related to the decedent and the reason for your request. A photocopy
of a state or federal photo ID should also be enclosed
