Death Certificate - The Secret Behind Abortions

The most recent proposal in the state of Tennessee is to require that a death certificate is issued for aborted fetuses. This controversial move will actually place the name of the mother who underwent the abortion as a matter of public record.

A death certificate is a document that is related to the death of an individual. It is issued by the registrar who handles all other vital records such as a birth certificate and marriage certificate. A death certificate contains the name of the person, the date, place and cause of death.

Before a death certificate can be issued, a physician or a coroner must have examined the body of the person to ensure that no foul play occurred and to determine the exact reason behind the death. All physicians are required by law to issue the death certificate.

A death certificate is also necessary when you are claiming life insurance or making arrangements for the funeral, burial or cremation. In some instances, the court may require a copy of a death certificate, if there is a case involving the deceased. When a person has gone missing or has been the victim of a mass tragedy, a death certificate may also be issued.

Death Certificate for Abortions?

This controversial move will actually place the name of the mother who underwent the abortion as a matter of public record. The state has reasoned that this proposal is meant to keep track of the number of abortions that take place in an area over a period of time.

There have been many debates concerning this new legislation that will require a death certificate for abortion, causing even greater divisiveness between the pro-choice and pro-life movements. On one hand, this could actually be a deterrent for abortions, since women may be ashamed to have to publicly declare that they went through an abortion.

On the other hand, this bill has been criticized for violating the privacy of an individual and the choices she makes in her life. The legislation could actually become detrimental for women seeking abortions, since they may turn to illegal abortion clinics or other means of getting rid of the child that they are carrying.

They may just obtain the abortion in another state where the requirement for a death certificate is not available. They may also be damaged psychologically, causing even greater fear and anxiety when they need an abortion but do not want the social stigma and humiliation that may become associated with it.

If this legislation is passed, it means that the state will have to impose stricter laws and guidelines on getting abortions. Abortion clinics will be required to provide a death certificate within ten days of the abortion or “induced termination of the pregnancy” or they will be sanctioned accordingly.

Although this is still a proposal and it will have to go through several stages before it is passed, the repercussions and consequences of such a bill has to be thoroughly examined first. It has been said that it is unlikely to be instituted, but it has already caused some uproar within certain circles.
