What is Necrophilia?Necrophilia is all about domination. Studies show that since necrophiliacs cannot control the living, they gain pleasure in dominating the dead.Necrophilia
is the psychological disorder characterized by
a sexual attraction to corpses. There are very few studies on
necrophilia as it
is still considered a very taboo and unacceptable practice. One study
on
necrophilia has discovered that necrophiliacs often suffer from low
self-esteem. Upon failure to connect with living people or due to an
unhealthy
fear of rejection, they develop this affliction and turn to the dead
for
emotional connection instead. It could also have come about due to a
fear of
the dead or simply a strange excitement derived from such an activity. From
a psychological standpoint, necrophilia can be
explained as a desire to gain control of another. There is absolutely
no
possibility of rejection if you are to engage in sexual relations with
the
dead. The
Different Kinds
of Necrophilia
There
are actually three kinds of necrophilia that have
been identified. First is the necrophilic homicide. A necrophiliac will
kill
someone to be able to obtain a corpse. He or she is not interested in
the
person he or she has murdered as a living person because the sole
purpose and
intent of killing the person is to engage in sexual relations with the
dead. The
second type of necrophilia is regular necrophilia
wherein the person will make do with the available corpses of the dead
instead
of killing someone simply to obtain one. In this second type, the
necrophiliac
sees the corpses as sexual objects that he or she can conquer. The
third type is simply necrophilic fantasy. A person may
have delusions and thoughts of necrophilia but never acts upon them.
While they
exist only in the mind, the necrophiliac may cross over to the first or
second
type of necrophilia. However, the social stigma or personal values
attached to
necrophilia may deter him from ever engaging in any sexual activity or
action
with the dead. Among
the three types, it is actually the second type that
is most common. In another study made on necrophilia, it was discovered
that
most necrophiliacs are employed in companies and industries where they
may
regularly have interaction with the dead. For example, most of them
worked at a
morgue or a funeral parlor where they were placed in charge of caring
for the
dead. Aside
from these professions, other necrophiliacs may also
work as hospital orderlies or conduct their work in a cemetery as
gravediggers.
There have also been some known cases of necrophilia in people who have
worked
as clerics or soldiers. However, it should be stressed that
necrophiliacs in
all of these professions are more often the exception than the norm.
They are
still a very small and rare group of people who are very private in
their
sexual desires. Many people may engage in these professions where they
are
continually in contact with the dead but have never in their lives ever
had the
desire to violate a corpse in the manner that necrophiliacs do. The
profile of most necrophiliacs is that they are most
commonly men and heterosexual although there have been some reported
cases of
