Qualifications
to Find Birth Records in Kansas
In Kansas, birth records are
NOT regarded as public. Only the following are allowed to apply to find birth
records in Kansas:
1. Individual named on record
2. Parents or legal guardians
of individual
3. Immediate family (e.g.,
aunts or uncles, grandparents)
4. Legal representatives acting
on behalf of qualified persons
5. Individuals who prove direct
interests (e.g., beneficiaries of a will)

Fees to Find Birth Records in

The Department charges $10,
inclusive of a five-year search of their database.
The database also contains a
number of birth records from the 1860s. The records were filed as delayed
documents, a practice that began in 1940. Succeeding copies of the same
record you request will cost only $5 each.
Make all checks and money
orders payable to the Kansas Office of Vital Statistics. The Department accepts
personal checks and credit card payments. Note that credit card companies tack
on an $8 billing fee.
